I may be a Leo, but it’s still a challenge for me to toot my own horn. I’m working on this (with the active, persistent, and sometimes irritating support of my Dear Friends.) I feel therefore compelled to tell you that earlier this summer I was the 2009 recipient of the Maine Association of Certified Nurse Midwives Excellence in Midwifery and Women’s Health Award! I have a plaque on the wall and a lovely crystal oh, what would you call it, not a statue per se; perhaps a trophy-ette – feel free to admire them next time you’re in to see me.

I am really tickled to have been honored in this way by an extraordinarily smart, competent, and hard-working group of practitioners for whom I have enormous respect. Plus we had a lovely luncheon at the Maine Hospital Association meeting at the Samoset – that’s where these awards are awarded. A bunch of busy nurse-midwives, we rarely get to spend time together unless we’re working; though we had a meeting afterwards (of course) the luncheon was just for fun. The Maine midwives are a brilliant bunch – here’s a link to their website. http://www.mainemidwives.org/index.html One day I will give you the whole rant about how advanced practice nurses are the best kept secret in American medicine. Talk about a solution to the health care crisis!

For more details about the award, here’s a link to the press release (thank you, Chris!) http://www.truenorthhealthcenter.org/press_release_detail.asp?news=788
